A mom called, she is visiting her friend (who uses e-cigarettes) and found her 2 year old sucking the liquid out of the E-cigarette device.
An adult caller was using a Brillo pad to clean a stain on his underwear. As a result of vigorously scrubbing, some of the Brillo cleanser flew into his eye.
A 2 year old girl was playing in mom’s dresser and squirted perfume into her eyes.
An adult female patient presented to the ER with severely blistered hands. The patient recently purchased some ‘all natural’ household cleaner, and she assumed since all the ingredients were all-natural it would be safe to use to disinfect her hands. The product’s ingredients, while natural, were caustic and caused chemical burns.
While visiting his grandparents, a 2 year old was found chewing on a discarded lidocaine patch he had found in the garbage.
A school nurse called because one of her students had been dared to swallow 5 pieces of nicotine gum. The student feels very shaky and nauseated.
A toddler bit into a bath bead.
A school nurse called because a 9 year old student was chewing on a gel pen and it exploded in his mouth.
A 3 year old was playing with a can of ant and roach killer and sprayed some into his mouth.
An 8 month old dumped a container of cornstarch baby powder on his head. He may have gotten some in his eyes and/or mouth.
An ER called about a farmer who came to them with difficulty breathing from “the gas that comes off green corn”.
A 5 year old licked his hands after mom squirted melon scented hand sanitizer on his hands before lunch.
A 2 year old got into children’s Tylenol chewables and ingested up to 23 tablets.
A 2 year old ingested a swallow of household bleach.

***IPC specialists also made 10 calls to homes and hospitals to follow up on the clinical course of patients we had been previously consulted on.
